5 Tips To Remove Glue From Laminate Flooring

When you are working on a project, sometimes it’s not the easiest thing to remember where all the scraps are ending up. This can present a real problem if the glue ends up on the laminate floor. Or if children are working on their school crafts, glue could dry up on laminate floors. Someone left that new bottle of superglue open and the dog knocked it over. And the list goes on and on depending on the household.

Impossible as some of these situations may seem, there is always a solution. Here are five easy tips to get the troublesome glue off your laminate flooring.

Thinners and Solvents

These both do a great job of getting large areas of wet or dried glue off the laminate floors. Examples of these substances that you may have around the house include paint thinner, mineral oil, and lighter fluid. Simply spread a cloth with the solvent of your choice over the area for a while, then scrape the softened substance up and off the floor.

Nail Polish Remover

Nail polish remover helps immensely when you are trying to clean up small spots of glue. As with the first tip, soak a little rag or cotton ball in nail polish remover and use that to scrub the spot clean. Just be careful that the area is well ventilated during and after the process.

A Razor Blade

Due to potential damage to the floor and safety reasons, this tip is specifically for super glue or other strong types of glue that are not flush to the floor. Simply slice the excess away with the blade, then use a thinner or solvent as discussed before to remove the remainder.

A Hot Iron

If harsh chemicals are a concern, the steam of a hot iron will also soften hardened glue. Place a damp cloth over the spot and then set your heated iron on top of it. Check the spot frequently until it is soft enough to scrape away from the floor. However, if heavy heat on the floor is a concern, do not attempt this method.

Using Dry Ice

Finally, for dried carpet glue, using dry ice is a unique tip. This extremely cold substance will make the glue very brittle. This enables you to scrape and chip it up. Once most of the glue is off, then a solvent can be used on the remainder.
